My Story

Ebony was chosen out of a litter of  6 gold and black puppies.  She was bought with Paul's 5th birthday money.  She was Paul's life long Friend and Companion.  She loved Paul and Paul loved her.  She romped and played with Paul.  Followed him everywhere he went, slept with him, had to sit by him, lay next to where ever he was.  She understood Paul's feelings when no one else did.  Paul would pat her on the head and say, "Ebonnnnyyyyyyy", and she'd lift her head and ears, look at him and speak to him with her eyes.  They had a special communication just between the two of them.  Ebony loved to EAT!  She'd scour the floors everyday for crumbs.  Once, when she was just a pup, she jumped on the table and ate Paul's dinner, a whole plate of spaghetti!  Paul's dad was mad, and made Ebony sleep outside that night.  (It was Summer)  Paul's mom knew his little heart was breaking, and went to visit Paul in his room.  Paul told him mom, through tears, "Mom, I didn't even get to feed Ebony tonight."  Paul's mom smiled and said, "Paul, Ebony had a whole plate of spaghetti for dinner, remember?"  Paul's eyes lit up and he answered, "Yea!, Ok now I know she had something to eat."  He was able to sleep better that night, knowing Ebony had a full belly.  The morning of the day Ebony left us, Paul's Mom gave Ebony 4 big Treat bones!  Ohhhhh did she love that!  She loved fresh straw in her bed.  She'd dance and prance and arrange it just so, every time she got new straw for her bed, or a new pillow when she moved inside.  New pillows were placed in her bed and she'd jump on them!  Best things in the world!  She when she could get up and down, sleep in Paul's bed with him.  Paul would later need to lift her up, or she just was content to lay on the floor next to his bed and spend her night with Paul.  She just wanted to be in the same room with him.

Tribute To a Best Friend

Sunlight streams through window pane unto a spot on the floor...
Then I remember,
It's where you used to lie, but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet, and muted echoes sound...
Then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road, and up beyond the hill,
Then I remember it can't be yours...
Your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor and empty muted hall
And lay them with the absent voice and the unused dish along the wall.
I'll wrap these treasured memorials in a blanket of love
And keep them for my best friend when we meet above.
