My Story

I first met Kimberley 15 years ago when as a young kitten she escaped from her owners and came into my garden, I returned her and from that day she would often sit on the wall looking into my garden and at my cat Joseph, over the years her and Joseph came to an understanding that he would go in her house and garden but she could not do the same. Joseph died in 2011 and I never saw Kimberley again until October 2012 when I saw this mangy cat scavenging in the bins, I realised it was Kimberley and as I had not seen her owners for a long time I thought she moved and left her behind, I went and got food and water for her by that time she had gone a little feral, she kept hissing at me to stay away so I left the food and went inside, I did this for a few weeks and finally I was in the garden and she cam and sat next to me, no petting was allowed and she would not come inside, I worried about her being outside in the cold so made up a shelter for her she seemed to like and then I went and bought an outside kennel as I was no further enticing her indoors and it was now December and cold. One night it was cold and very wet and Kimberley's makeshift shelter had collapsed and she was sitting under a bush trying to keep dry I opened the back door and she came in, that was the start of our life, over the next few weeks some days she seemed friendly and when I would stroke she would scratch and bite so I left her, after about three months I met her former owner and mentioned Kim, they thought she had run away to die and did not bother to look for her but I agreed to return her to them later that day, my heart was breaking when I took her back and the woman seemed happy to have her and I thought that was it, next day when I got back from shopping Kimberley came running round the corner to meet me, she rolled on her back and let me rub her tummy and then she ran round to the back door as if to say "I am staying". Her owners knew she was with me and were happy to let me look after her, they knew she was safe and loved. I had almost two wonderful years with her being bitten, scratched and having my ankles bitten every time I walked past. On 23rd January 2015 she was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure, I was not given much advice by my vet just medication and a prescription diet and to bring her in for a blood test each month, all was going well until 14th March 2015 when she stopped eating, I tried everything and had long given up on the prescription diet as she would not touch it, even syringe feeding did not help I made the fateful appointment to see the vet praying that he could help her but her mouth was full of ulcers and her blood results were not good and he advised me it would be kinder to let her go, I did not want to but I agreed and held her little body in my arms until the last breath went out of her body and left me broken hearted. I miss my Kimberley so much and will never forget the short time she was in my life .xxx
