He was bought by my boyfriend at the time because he always wanted a pure kelpie but as we later found out Mack's father was a rottie. I took Mack to get his first collar and leash and after I put it on him he started rolling around on the ground like he was in pain, which was kind of embarrassing and cute at the same time cause I'd put it on him outside the shop. This was also when we started to suspect he wasn't pure kelpie cause people kept saying what a cute rottie pup.
So in time my boyfriend came to the decision, without talking to me first, to put an ad in the paper about Mack as free to good home. I was so upset. My boyfriend said that if no one wants him that he could be my dog. I received one call but I told them that the dog was gone. When my boyfriend came home that evening he asked was the dog still here I said yes. So now he was my dog, my first dog.
When he was about 12 months old he got hit by a car. We were moving house, out to the country and we hadn't seen a car all day. Mack came in the house and was harassing Elmo the cat so I shooed him outside and he went running out of the house, straight out of the open gate and on to the road and into the path of my new neighbours car. We rushed him to the vet where we were told we would have to wait a see if he made it through the night. He made it and the next decision was to decide about his leg. I chose to save, it cost more but I couldn't bear the thought of him losing his leg.
Just before we were due to move into our own home, the fence fell down at the rental property and Mack and Mustang went on an adventure out on the streets. I'm glad Mack didn't get the taste of freedom like Mustang and Sophie. Although it could also have been because he was to big and couldn't jump the fence to join them.
At the end of 2009 Mack developed an immune system disease, he surprised the vet by recovering. It was a long road to get you back to health. Mack was always fit and active, eager to play ball. The spirit was willing but old age had caught up with you. Mack had a skin condition that we were treating and the time when we discovered the immune system disease had returned. Unfortunately it's harder to treat second time around and you lost the battle.
I always felt safe with you around, I will miss so very much, my Mackie Dude.
