My Story

I pick him out in a litter of 4 male puppies at just 4 weeks of age, I got to meet his mum, dad, grandpa and grandma, all healthy looking dogs and I was impressed with how clean the breeders kennels were. 2 weeks later we got to take him home, Phoenix was the name that suited him the most and he took to it within the week. Very smart this little puppy but head strong. He learnt quickly and became a great dog who spent almost every afternoon at the dog park with his many friends. My kids adored him and he was a loved member of the family. He's favourite foods were salmon heads, whole mullet and chicken necks. Fresh meat and good bikkies is all that he would eat, turn his nose up at tinned food like we were trying to poison him. Now this malamute never did see snow but he loved the beach and swimming in the surf. He did not like to play fetch as I'm sure he thought it was beneath him, we tried once I threw the ball and he brought it back but when I threw it again he looked at me as much to say "I brought it back once now you get it". That was the last time we played fetch. He did have a thing for stuffed toys and loved them till their stuffing came out. The best times was when Phoenix and I could go on a walk early in the morning by ourselves. He was there for me when I lost my dad, just spending time with him help me through some tough times. Phoenix  ment so much to me that I got a tattoo of him, so he would always be with me. At the start of this year I notice he started to get a limp and the vet said it was the beginings of arthritis. He kept going downhill and there was nothing we could do, last week he went in the back legs and it was time to make that hardest of choices we have to do has pet owners. Today I took my mate of 5 1/2 years to the vet for his final journey, the hardest thing I have ever had to do. As my heart broke I said my last goodbyes and held him in my arms till he took his last breath, I never lost eyecontact with him and hoped he read the plee in my eyes that I was doing the best by him. I have an image in my head of him running at full speed completely free of pain and just maybe my dad was there to meet him. I love you so much my boy and I will miss you. XXXXXXXXXXX
