My Story

Scully was the mother of several litters of Border Terrier puppies from the South Australian Border Terrier breeders, Stormvale.  One of her puppies was Fergus who I adopted as a puppy.  When Fergus was about a year old I decided to get a companion for him and as Scully was being "retired" from her breeding days, she came to live with us.  A sweeter, gentler and more loveable dog it would be hard to find.  She was very quiet and docile compared to boisterous Fergus but as soon as she got to know us and feel at home she became devoted to us both.  She was a dear little soul, always very shy around other people but loved to be with me, her "mummy" and lie quietly beside me as I worked or read.  As she got older she slowed down a little and couldn't jump up on the bed any more so she had her own special bed with cushions in my bedroom where she loved to spend lots of time having peaceful snoozes.  She loved her food and eagerly awaited mealtimes, jumping up on her hind legs and whining excitedly while her dinner was being prepared.  She loved to come for walks with Fergus and I and enjoyed lots of stops to sniff the roses or other interesting things along the way.  One of her favourite pranks was pulling books out of the lower shelves of the bookcase and leafing through them with her teeth.  I soon learnt to leave only the old, dog-eared books down there for her to browse through when the mood took her.  She hadn't been well for a few months and became much worse a few days ago when she began to suffer liver failure.  I couldn't bear the thought of her suffering and as there was nothing that could be done I sadly had to bid her goodbye.  She went to sleep quietly and peacefully at home with Fergus and I thanks to a vet who was able to call and perform this service for us.  May she rest in peace and live forever joyfully and in good health across the Rainbow Bridge until we see her again.
