My Story

Barney Boo,

You first came into my life in the October of 2004. It became obvious quite soon that you had been abandoned.

You had started to hang around the youth hostel where I worked, the kids loved you as you were homeless like them. They would let you into the home and feed you scraps, as a member of staff, I would have to chase you out, as animals werent allowed but when Christmas came, you looked skinny and your fur was dull, I allowed you in to get warm and you had turkey for dinner.

As the new year came, I started to bring food into work for you, I would feed you by the roadside and you would only eat if I stayed there with you, much to the annoyance of my employer!

In the March, enough was enough as you started looking really bad, I took you home and called you Barney after the kid's pet name for the hostel... you never really did get used to it though, but calling you my baby and asking if you wanted sweeties... always got your attention!

You followed me everywhere and even sat with your front paws on the dash board of the car when I took you to the vet. You soon put on weight, and your pure white coat got lovely and shiny. You couldn't stay clean though, you loved rolling in the dust in summer and always came home with some kind of car greese over you!

Your favorite pass times were, hunting, having your teeth filed while I was filing my nails, and sitting next to me at meal times, stretching your paw out to grab my hand after I'd just loaded my folk with food! You were so funny, but you also had a short temper and refused to wear a collar.

I used to wake in the night sometimes to hear you snoring at the foot of my bed! Your pur was so loud too, I can't believe I will never hear that again... or your unusual meow, a type of Siamese call you had.

When you didn't come home on Friday, it wasnt so unusual, but after a couple of days, I started to get worried... I asked neighbours, looked in the bike shed, and put an add in at the local radio station, but no-one had seen you. I then started to call local vets... which is when I found you...

You had been in a road traffic accident, someone had took you to the vet, but after an hour on oxygen and pain killers, they had to help you go to sleep, as you were just hurt too badly.

I'm sorry I wasn't there for you...

I miss you so very much... my Baby, my Barney Boo, my friend.
