My Story

Buckminster died Sunday, 4 December 2011. He gave us thirteen years of love and companionship. Bucky enjoyed people. When I first met Bucky, he was still blue-eyed and able to fit in one of my hands. His mother was a tiny and very sweet cat, with a tendency to find her way out of her home to wander the neighborhood. Bucky's father was unknown, but I suspect was the overlarge Maine-Coon-looking feral tom that wandered the city neighborhood. I found Bucky's mother during one of her wanderings, and returned her to her owner- it was clear she had babies that needed cared for. In return, Bucky was my pick of the litter. Since that day, Bucky became an ambassador for leash-trained cats, a "foster daddy" to numerous feral kittens I tamed before adopting to other families, and a gentle demonstration cat for fellow veterinary nursing students. As time went on, he became simply our loving companion. It became clear he was reaching "old age" and I am thankful that his passing was easy and he did not have complicating illnesses. He remains a special kitty in our hearts.

What follows is from my daughter- she had a special bond with Bucky since her birth, and he would often spend most of his time sleeping with her, following her, and hanging around her.

he would come to my room and curl up in my lap and sleep! He was so comferting."
