Butch was the most beautiful, loving and faithful Husky there ever was. He started out as a purchased rescue but became the center of my world. He was a few months old, a puppy mill puppy, living in a cage that was too small, not even able to completely lie down or get to his water. He had many health issues but with the expert vet services of Southgate animal hospital, he overcame his issues and grew to be a healthy happy dog.
High spirited as a puppy, he certainly left his mark on the backyard, chewing through bushes and digging multiple ditches. Chewing and eating everything in sight ( Midol, autographed copy of Boy Georges autobiography, etc). I'd give anything to have those days back!
As he grew, he mellowed into a real lover. Everyone that saw him always remarked just how beautiful he was. At Halloween I would put his Count Dogula cape on him and he would frighten everyone with those beautiful blue eyes and menacing wolfish look.
As a puppy he was always car sick. As he entered into his senior years, he grew to love car rides, feeling the wind on his face. On his last ride, he managed to stand for a bit and enjoyed the cool breeze on his face with his nostrils flaring
He was especially talented when it came to communicating. He would talk to me when he had to go out. I would make him tell me "I want to go out" and he would mimic in his Husky fashion with a little howl at the end. This always made me laugh! I never tired of this game we played.
He was my comfort, my joy and my best friend. When I was sad, he would come to me and put his head on my chest and look up at me, rubbing his face on me. I would especially love when we were out and about, if I left him for a minute, he would howl and whine like a baby as if I were leaving him forever. How do you replace a love and loyalty like that!
Butch made sure you knew how happy he was to see you when you came home. He did his happy dance with his vocalization of rahrahrahrah with his head flipping back and forth. If he had a pair of sunglasses on, he would look like Stevie Wonder when he sings.
Butch lived in a world filled with cats, inside and outside. Strays would not run from him. He had several stray cat fans that would come running from wherever they were as soon as they heard his collar tags jingling. They would rub all over him and walk all around his legs. My gentle giant would not harm them in any way and would let them do their thing.
My heart is broken. I admired his beauty every day, whether he was prancing, vocalizing, or just laying there sleeping. His departure was sudden and a terrible shock. I took him to the vet for a sore on his leg and found that his body had been carrying around a huge abdominal tumor. He never really let me know he was sick or hurting. He was an amazing animal and I love him very much. He will remain in my heart forever!
