My husband and I were shopping at the mall when we happened upon the pet store they have there. We walked in to look at all the animals on display when I noticed I didn't see any kittens. I was telling my husband this when one of the employees there told me they were in the back. She asked me if I would like to see them. I told her yes. I had no intention of buying one, but for some reason, I wanted to look. She brought out the cutest kittens I ever saw. The one that caught my eye was the one I took from the woman's arms. I held this little creature in my arms and I fell head over heels for her. I looked at my husband and he couldn't say no. I had just lost my sister Angela the week before to a car accident and he thought this kitten would help the healing process. We bought all the things needed for a cat: litterbox, food and of course a couple of toys. We were on the way home with our new baby meowing in my arms. All I could say was "she's so precious". My husband said that we had to name her. I said "Precious, because that's what she is." We had her for ten years when we found out our then three year old was highly allergic to cats among other things. We gave Precious to another family member who loved her as much as we did. Precious died two years later from grief. She grieved herself to death after the father in that family passed away. She grew very close to this person and when he died, she just couldn't go on anymore. Even though Precious had been gone from our home for two years, my heart was still broken because the heart doesn't know anything about time.
