My Story

I adopted Robert from Golden Retriever Rescue on October 1, 2007, he didnt have much history except for the fact that he was found wondering, had cancer in his ear and had been abused. When I first met him, I was working at a veterinary office, where we take in many rescued goldens to treat them and get them ready for adoption, I had been working there for about 3 months and had seen many horrible cases, but Robert stood out...I have to admit his name added that special something, but he never made a noise...never barked...nothing he would just simply lay in his cage...probably thinking this is how life is supposed to be, his first visit to the office was in August, and then he was taken to live at a foster home, I figured that was the last time I would see him. But he came again the end of September, I think just for a check up and then he was pictured on the website to be adopted. I had to have him. We already had 3 dogs in the house but I convinced my mom that he was different, you probably wouldn't even know he was there. So I adopted him, the lady said you can take him home tomorrow (seeing as the vet was closed) and I said, no I have the key to get in, he is not staying there one more night, so about 7:30pm, I was picking him up, green beans and all (he was on a weightloss diet) :D I still remember getting him 12 cans every 2 weeks, 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. He instantly got along with the other dogs and learned the doggie door that same night. He loved his nightly walk, and his car rides, and espically his treats. He hated bathes, but would fall asleep  when he was being dried and his toenails trimmed. He had surgery 2 times trying to get the cancer in his ear removed, but with little luck, it seemed to get worse each time, after that there wasnt much else to do, the cancer had gotten to big and blood test results found his liver to be weak due to all the medication he was on, for his legs and ear, so we had to take him off, which just seemed to make everything worse. I am thankful I got to come home this past weekend to see him, but I am pretty sure that he knew we loved him, and seeing as he never made a noise, its hard to tell how much pain he is in, but just looking at his ear and how he cant get up on his own is enough to tell me it hurts. I will love him forever and will never forget him. I love you Robert to the moon!

Love Forever and Always,
Mom
